Mandela Day - In Our Hands
Mandela Day - In Our Hands
This series was photographed on assignment for the Mandela Day campaign. The overarching objective of Mandela Day is to inspire individuals to take action to help change the world for the better, and in doing so build a global movement for good. It seeks to empower communities and individuals everywhere. Take Action; Inspire Change; Make Every Day a Mandela Day. After Nelson Mandela's passing his work lives on throug his foundations, 46664 and Mandela day. These pictures are of those who have pledged to continue his legacy, as his ambassadors. His work is in their hands now.
After the run of the original Mandela Day campaign I was approached by filmmakers Elliot Kotek, and Frank Kelly to make a short film in tribute to Nelson Mandela using these images. With Elliot's poetry about the experiences on and off screen these hands have had and Frank's skillfull editing, they created "Raise My Hands", also included here. It went on to screen at 15 film festivals around the world. Thank you to Elliot, Frank and everyone else involved in the project who gave these images a second chapter and made a beautiful little film.
